Why the Name “Mutts”?

Hi friend — we’re Allan and Brodie, the proud owners of Mutts Café.
We opened Mutts back in 2020, and ever since then, people have asked us the same question: “Why Mutts?”

The answer, however, comes from a simple belief.
The best things in life are rarely just one thing. Food, music, culture.. They’re all made better when different influences come together. And that mix? That’s where the magic happens.

One day, Allan shared the story of the caramel dogs in Brazil .. Stray street dogs that belong to no one, yet are loved by everyone. In English, they’re often called mutts. While the word can sometimes carry a negative meaning, to us, it represented something powerful instead.

That moment, in turn, shaped our mission.

What Mutts Stands For

To us, being a mutt is something to celebrate.
It means you don’t need to fit a mould to belong. More importantly, it means your differences aren’t flaws — they’re your strength.

Since day one, our goal has been to build a café in Exmouth where people feel comfortable being themselves. Because of that, Mutts has become a place for misfits, locals, travellers, creatives, surfers, families, and anyone who needs a home away from home.

Mutts Café is proudly based in Exmouth, WA … A place shaped by the ocean, red dirt, wide skies, and a strong sense of community. Naturally, that environment influences how we live, work, and connect every single day.

We’re surfers, hikers, climbers, and lovers of the outdoors. Because of that, we’ve built a dog-friendly, pet-friendly café in Exmouth where muddy paws, sandy feet, and sun-soaked smiles are always welcome.

So yes, bring your dogs.
And yes… we’ve even had horses, cats, and pet birds drop by.

Ultimately, we celebrate the scruffiness of this crazy life. We celebrate the messy, beautiful moments — especially when they make someone else’s day just that little bit better.
